The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that a cumulative global investment of US$26.0 trillion (in 2007 dollar terms) will be needed in energy infrastructure between 2007 and 2030. Among them, the power industry invested 13.6 trillion US dollars, accounting for 52.3% of the total investment. The current financial crisis will not affect long-term investment, and by 2030 it is expected that more than half of global energy investment will be needed to maintain current energy supply capacity alone, and by 2030, oil, gas, and electricity infrastructure will need to be replaced in many parts of the world. In the long run, the foreseeable energy investment will bring a lot of room for development to the application of flowmeters in the oil and gas and energy industry sectors.
In the face of fierce competition, users in various industries pay more attention to the operational efficiency of production plants. Significant investments have been made to improve the level of automation in the factory and to collect and monitor field data in real time. For example, in the oil and gas and energy industries, there is a need for reliable fluid measurement equipment in closed transmission facilities; Trends in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, such as the need for high-precision flow meters, are driving the development of sensors and field devices, including flow meters.
Electronic technologies such as digital signal processing (DSP) and microprocessors are being introduced into flow meters, which allow them to have self-diagnostics and better communicate with the production control plane.
Future outlook for the flowmeter market
A. Electromagnetic Flowmeter
From the perspective of the electromagnetic flowmeter product itself, the electromagnetic flowmeter is a mature product. With the development of technology in recent years, on the one hand, the intelligence of the electromagnetic flowmeter transmitter has been increased, and the converter has added functions such as self-diagnosis and self-calibration. So as to realize some online self-diagnosis functions, reduce the maintenance workload of electromagnetic flowmeter, and replace the traditional offline inspection method by online inspection. Both Krohne and ABB are currently promoting the concept of online self-diagnosis. The online inspection method of electromagnetic flowmeter is becoming more and more mature from birth to application, but it will take some time to promote it in various industries across the country. The biggest difficulty lies in the fact that the electromagnetic flowmeter is a measuring instrument, and its online inspection specifications need to be recognized by the national technical supervision department and relevant industry associations.
B. Vortex flowmeter
The biggest problem in the development of vortex flowmeter technology is how to resist the noise and vibration used in actual production. The vortex flowmeter is still a flowmeter in development, regardless of its theoretical basis or practical experience. In the next few years, with the continuous maturity of the technology of the vortex flowmeter, the acceptance and technical level of the user will gradually improve, and the vortex flowmeter will gradually be maturely used.
C. Mass flow meter
Different from electromagnetic and vortex flowmeters, mass flowmeters have a higher technical threshold. The biggest obstacle to the expansion of mass flow meter applications is the price problem. In the decades since the development of quality vagameters, local suppliers have not specifically mastered the production technology of high-end mass flowmeters. Therefore, the price of mass flowmeter remains high, in addition to being widely used in the petroleum and petrochemical industry, it is less used in other industries due to price restrictions. At present, the mainstream foreign mass flowmeter suppliers have also seen such market demand, and have begun to promote low-end mass flowmeter products in the market. From the perspective of mass flow meter technology, the caliber of mass flow meter is also getting larger and larger, and it can be used on various large-diameter pipelines.
