The difference between pressure sensor and pressure transmitter

Sep 19, 2022

Pressure sensors are the most commonly used sensors in industry, because just like blood pressure is an important data for a person's health, pressure values are as indispensable to industrial production. It is widely used in various industrial automation environments, involving water conservancy and hydropower, railway transportation, intelligent buildings, production automation, aerospace, military, petrochemical, oil wells, electric power, ships, machine tools, pipelines and many other industries.

Pressure sensor is the most commonly used sensor in industrial practice. Generally, the output of ordinary pressure sensor is an analog signal. An analog signal refers to a continuous signal whose information parameters are expressed within a given range. Or in a continuous time interval, the characteristic quantity of its representative information can be presented as a signal of any value at any instant. The pressure sensors we usually use are mainly made of piezoelectric effect, and such sensors are also called piezoelectric sensors.

Most pressure sensors are based on the piezoelectric effect, which converts pressure values into electrical signals. For this reason, these are also commonly referred to as pressure transmitters. The two common signals used are the 4~20 mA signal and the 0~10 volts.

So what is the difference between a sensor and a transmitter?

The sensor converts the physical quantity to be measured into electrical signals. These signals are usually very small and need to be amplified before they can be converted into relevant industrial signals such as 4-20mA, 0-10V, etc. that we need.

Simply put, the sensor is the core of the transmitter, and the transmitter is a device that includes a sensor and an amplifier circuit and can output industrial electrical signals.

Therefore, in the industry, we are more about XX transmitters, such as temperature transmitters, pressure transmitters, etc.

type

There are three types of pressure that we use frequently in the industry

*Pressure Absolute Pressure: *Pressure: refers to the pressure measured relative to *vacuum

Gauge Pressure: It is measured with reference to atmospheric pressure

Differential Pressure: As the name suggests, it is the difference between two pressure values.

Since there are different types of pressures (*pressure, differential pressure, gauge pressure), it is important to understand those factors that will affect the use of the sensor. Choose the appropriate product according to the usage environment. In addition, knowledge of the operating temperature range is also important. The temperature of the liquid or gas substance to be measured must not exceed the operating temperature range of the sensor.
